The Setup Machinist is a full-time, onsite CNC setup and precision machining position in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Responsibilities:
Independently set up CNC machines using setup sheets, engineering drawings, work instructions, tooling requirements, and established manufacturing processes.
Operate CNC equipment and perform all standard machining responsibilities, including part inspection, offset adjustments, tool changes, and routine machine maintenance.
Install and verify tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, and machine parameters required for production setups and changeovers.
Run first-piece components independently and verify dimensional conformance to engineering drawings before releasing processes for production.
Measure and inspect components using precision measurement equipment and make necessary machine or tooling adjustments to maintain specifications.
Troubleshoot setup, tooling, machining, dimensional, and basic process issues while taking appropriate precautions to prevent machine crashes and equipment damage.
Support production changeovers and optimize setup execution to reduce downtime and maintain manufacturing throughput.
Follow quality procedures, manufacturing documentation, safety requirements, and process controls within a regulated precision manufacturing environment.
Qualifications:
Previous experience as a CNC Setup Machinist, CNC Machinist, Swiss Machinist, or similar precision machining professional.
Demonstrated ability to independently complete CNC machine setups using setup sheets and manufacturing documentation.
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
Experience running and inspecting first-piece components without direct assistance.
Strong knowledge of CNC offsets, cutting tools, tool changes, workholding, fixtures, and machining fundamentals.
Experience using precision measuring instruments to verify tight-tolerance machined components.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic machining and setup issues while maintaining safe machine operation.
Ability to work full time onsite in West Chester, Pennsylvania and complete initial training on first shift.
Desired Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with Mazak CNC equipment, including Integrex or 5-axis machining platforms.
Experience operating or setting up Star Swiss or comparable Swiss-style CNC machines.
Experience supporting frequent production changeovers in a precision machining environment.
Experience with medical device manufacturing, regulated manufacturing, or other high-precision industries.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, setup reduction, and production efficiency initiatives.
