Job Description

General Overview

Under general supervision performs semi-skilled work in construction, maintenance and repair of sewers; operates equipment, drives trucks, cleans and inspects sewers. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.

Must possess a valid State of Ohio operator's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures; sewer cleaning methods; water/sewer construction methods. Ability to recognize unusual and threatening conditions and take corrective action; recognize safety warnings; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; demonstrate physical fitness; drive trucks. Skill in use of sewer/cleaning equipment; use of basic construction tools. (*Indicates developed after employment).

Job Duties

The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.

Operates light equipment utilized in the construction, maintenance and repair of sewer lines, sewer related structures (e.g. drives trucks, assists with set ups of sewer cleaning equipment such as sewer jet, prodding machine, pumps, television and probing equipment; mixes cement, operates air compressor, jack hammer, welding equipment hole hogs, etc.); cleans and maintains equipment. Performs manual tasks associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of sewer lines, hydrants, and sewer related structures (e.g. loads/unloads materials, digs up manholes, sets sheeting, backfills holes, tamps dirt, flumes water, breaks up pavement, cuts pip, sets up barricades, cleans inlets and ditches, probes holes for underground service lines, utility ducts and underground cables, assists with installation of pipe, valves, valve curb boxes, curb pits, etc.); cleans and maintains tools.

An employee will be exposed to the hazards normally associated with the manual tasks associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of sewer related structures. Must be able to travel to and access the various of work sites, under all types of weather conditions.

  • Requires various types of physical exertion, such as prolonged bending, stooping, and lifting, walking on uneven terrain, ice, snow, mud and driving vehicles and/or equipment for long periods of time.
  • Employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb, and balance, move, and carry objects weighing up to 95 pounds with assistance repeatedly from one location to another.
  • Job requires the performance of heavy manual labor, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and perform repetitive motions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work hours may be required.
