Sewing Machine Operators are responsible for operating various sewing machines within the production process. Sewers are required to perform various tasks to set up, operate, process and monitor production. The Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for inspectingparts to specifications and adjusting tools as necessary to maintain quality specifications. This includes the ability to resolve minor component and quality issues.

Core functions include:

• Operating various machines to ensure continuous production at a constant rate of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials throughout the entire shift and performing basic adjustments to ensure safe and efficient production of products.
• Performing in-process inspections of parts throughout the manufacturing run and ensuring they meet visual standards of acceptance.
• Responsible for producing parts in the proper quantity as identified by the production schedule.
• Performing necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment startup.
• Adjusting machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion.
• Performing operational procedures to ensure the quality of the product packaged.
• Following and committing to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for safety, quality, production, efficiency, and service requirements.
• Reporting material utilization in the production report.
• Ensuring daily production report data is reported correctly and up to date.
• Recognizing defective materials for color, surface blemishes, finish, and dimensions.
• Identifying the proper tooling required for pending production.
• Inspecting the condition of molds and component parts for damage and wear.
• Inspecting machine, conveyer and tools in department and notifying Lead that a maintenance repair form is needed, or replacement tools are required.
• Keeping work cell, department, and fire-doors clear of trash and other obstructions that could hinder department performance/safety.
• Maintaining condition of work area to meet 5-S standards.
• Communicating with team members and support teams.
• Maintaining professional attitude offering support to Leads, Supervisors and Manager.
• Demonstrating flexibility and willingness to assist whenever and in whatever capacity needed to ensure continuous production at a constant rate of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials throughout the entire shift.

• Qualifications and requirements include:

  Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Prior experience operating manufacturing, packaging, and process control equipment preferred.

  Physical Requirements:

  • This position is subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • This position is subject to the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, crawling, and repetitive motions.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat, noise, vibration, and hazards from a production-based environment.
