We provide secure, high-quality language solutions in more than 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Shanghainese (Wu Chinese) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Shanghainese is a rare Chinese dialect, distinct from Mandarin and Cantonese, often required for asylum, immigration, and refugee interviews.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Shanghainese English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and official proceedings.
Interpret accurately, neutrally, and professionally in immigration, legal, and administrative contexts.
Maintain confidentiality in line with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Shanghainese (Wu Chinese) and English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, community, or government preferred).
Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
Excellent telephone communication skills; ability to stay accurate under pressure.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
