The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Supports multiple managers and groups consisting of professional and technical employees both remotely and on-site as well as performing administrative tasks as needed for the post-of-duty.
  • Validates and inputs information to open, assign, transfer and close cases using various business unit case management automated systems such as the Examination Return Control System (ERCS), Report Generating System (RGS), Integrated Collection System (ICS), Entity Case Management System (ECMS), and Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS).
  • Verifies completeness and accuracy of case controls to ensure compliance with established business unit procedures and formats. Identifies and resolves inconsistencies shown on the Related Return Report, Inventory Validation Listing, or other inventory reports. Extracts and analyzes data such as ERCS/AIMS/IDRS data to monitor statutes and alert the group manager and technical employees to ensure protection of the Government's interest.
  • Analyzes case information to determine the appropriate procedures to close cases involving multiple work streams. Maintains and updates a variety of manual and automated tracking systems used in processing cases.
  • Retrieves from business unit automated systems such as ERCS, RGS, CEAS, ICS, Entity, ATFR and IDRS a variety of reports and technical material including forms, correspondence, supporting documents, etc. related to taxpayer cases.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you must meet the qualification requirements outlined below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-06: To be eligible for this position, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service.Specialized experience includes:

  • Experience providing clerical and administrative support by using automated systems to prepare documents, input and maintain information, generate reports, and support administrative controls.
  • Experience responding to and referring taxpayers and/or customer inquiries and complaints by providing routine information or directing inquiries to the appropriate office or individual.
  • Experience applying established policies, procedures, manuals, or written guidance to perform administrative support and case processing activities.
  • Experience reviewing, verifying, and maintaining administrative or case-related information for completeness and accuracy in accordance with established procedures.
  • Experience preparing correspondence, reports, forms, or other administrative documents while applying proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.

TYPING AND OFFICE AUTOMATION (OA)

TYPING PROFICIENCY: Applicants must be qualified typists with a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute (based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors). Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for three years. We may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.

Office Automation (OA): This position requires experience using office automation systems, software practices and procedures.

  • TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT (TACA): Current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. For this requirement, a competitive appointment is one where you applied to and were appointed from an announcement open to "All US Citizens".
  • TIME IN GRADE (TIG): For positions above the GS-05,applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the grade you are applying for. For positions at the GS-5, you cannot advance to the GS-05 if you have held a GS-02 in the past 52 weeks. There is no TIG restriction for GS-02, 03, or 04 positions.

Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA)  
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) provides leadership and coordination and recommends policy for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of the internal revenue laws. TIGTA also recommends policies to prevent and detect fraud and abuse in the programs and operations of the IRS and related entities. 
 
  
U.S. Mint 
The U.S. Mint designs and manufactures domestic, bullion and foreign coins as well as commemorative medals and other numismatic items. The Mint also distributes U.S. coins to the Federal Reserve banks as well as maintains physical custody and protection of our nation's silver and gold assets.
