    Job Description:

    GENERAL PURPOSE:


    Under general supervision, fabricates high quality sheet metal signs effectively and efficiently. Responsible to use and program cutting and welding equipment to cut and weld metals and other materials to create parts for sign assembly.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Reviews plans and diagrams to ensure accuracy of cutting of materials to create sign parts
    • Plans, prepares and uses materials to be cut in a matter to keep waste to a minimum
    • Cuts materials consistent with specifications of job order
    • Operates metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to job specifications
    • Operates welding equipment to weld sign parts together
    • Implements and maintains quality control and safety during material handling, cutting, and welding
    • Sands, polishes, and cleans cut materials
    • Lays out materials to be used for skinning/covering sign structures
    • Bends and shapes sign parts according to job specifications
    • Performs pre-painting and wiring preparation by cleaning and labeling of parts
    • Touches up paint and performs detail of signs
    • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to sheet metal department equipment
    • Performs duties to ensure department meets expectations and deadlines


    MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Monitors parts and materials inventory
    • Moves materials and cut parts around the YESCO facility
    • Assists other sheet metal employees
    • Racks and pallets materials for shipping
    • Keeps shop area clean and free from debris to maintain a safe working environment
    • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned


    NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

    • Interacts daily with employees and supervisors at the YESCO facilities to discuss sheet metal department projects


    TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     High school diploma or GED; one to six years of demonstrated experience in welding, power tool operation, or related areas; acceptance or enrollment in the YESCO or other authorized apprenticeship program; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

    • Must possess 3G Welding certificate
    • Ability to read, interpret and apply specification documents, government coding document information, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to apply geometric and algebraic mathematical calculations
    • Ability to move materials, equipment, cutting and completed projects
    • Ability to effectively communicate

    Work is typically performed indoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. Noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and balance. Must be able to occasionally move objects in excess of 75 lbs. Specific vision abilities include: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; and ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
