Sheet Metal Installer I Position Overview As a Sheet Metal Installer I, you'll support the installation, fabrication, and assembly of sheet metal ductwork and HVAC components on commercial projects, working under direct supervision to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic field environment. Assist experienced team members in delivering precise, code-compliant systems that contribute to safer, more efficient, and sustainable commercial facilities nationwide. Duties and Responsibilities - Assist in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and accessories per blueprints, specifications, and SMACNA standards under direct supervision.
- Support layout, cutting, bending, and sealing of ductwork using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Perform general site preparation, cleanup, material handling, and organization to maintain a safe and efficient work area.
- Help load/unload materials, transport equipment, and assist with rigging/lifting tasks as directed.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard identification; follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times.
- Document basic work activities, material usage, and time logs as instructed.
- Actively learn dry-side HVAC applications, sheet metal techniques, and industry best practices through on-the-job training and mentorship.
Requirements/Qualifications - Experience: 0–3 years in construction, labor, or related field; no prior HVAC/sheet metal experience required—strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school or vocational training in construction or metalwork a plus.
- Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use hand/power tools for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity required.
- Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial construction settings (indoor/outdoor, varying weather conditions, active job sites); exposure to noise, dust, heights, sharp materials, and mechanical hazards; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Required Skills - Basic hand and power tool operation (shears, snips, drills, saws).
- Material handling, site cleanup, and general labor support.
- Ability to read basic blueprints/drawings (training provided).
- Safety awareness, teamwork, and willingness to follow instructions.
