Bradley Angle is a dynamic social service organization offering safe shelter and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence and their children since 1975. Bradley Angle offers an array of holistic programs and services. A leader in creating innovative, community-based services which enhance the quality of life for all survivors of domestic violence, we work in partnership with others to create a safe and healthy community.

STATUS: Full time, 1.0 FTE

SALARY: $29.50 per hr; health, dental, retirement, generous paid time off; medical & dental insurance;

retirement, generous PTO, $1 per hr pay differential for Bi-lingual

HOURS: 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm SUPERVISOR: Emergency Shelter Manager

LOCATION: Onsite: Shelter (85%), Resource Center (15%)

Additional skills and competencies you'll need….

Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing

  • Strong computer software skills
  • Knowledge of underlying issues impacting the intersection of domestic/sexual violence and homelessness.
  • Knowledge of community resources (shelter, food pantry, utility support, eviction prevention, short term housing, etc)., specifically within Multnomah County
  • Ability to use professional boundaries with survivors and coworkers, and appropriately handle sensitive information while maintaining strict confidentiality protocols.

What You Will Do as a Shelter Family Advocate

Promote Ethical, Survivor-Centered Practice

  • Work with participants, co-workers, supervisors, community partners, and other stakeholders in ways that uphold Bradley Angle's Ethical Commitments and Organizational Values.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow all Bradley Angle policies and procedures.

Support Participants Through Advocacy and Direct Services

Provide ongoing, survivor-centered advocacy including:

  • Safety planning
  • Goal planning
  • Weekly check-ins
  • Crisis intervention
  • Peer-based emotional support
  • Positive parenting support
  • Resource sharing and education
  • Meet with participants during regular office hours and schedule additional appointments as needed, either at the shelter or in the community.

Coordinate Services and Strengthen Support Networks

  • Maintain strong communication with all Bradley Angle Advocates and shelter staff to ensure seamless, coordinated services for participants and their children.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to support participants' goals, including:
  • Co-advocacy with other Bradley Angle programs
  • Rental assistance navigation
  • Referrals for mental health counseling
  • Referrals for alcohol and drug treatment
  • Support accessing public assistance programs

Document Services and Maintain Accurate Records

  • Complete all required documentation, including:
  • Intake forms
  • Releases of information
  • Service notes
  • Program statistics
  • Document services according to Bradley Angle file standards and funder requirements, including entries in ServicePoint, GroupTrail, and written records.
  • Report critical incidents or challenging situations immediately to the Emergency Shelter Manager.

Contribute to a Safe, Supportive Shelter Environment

  • Model healthy conflict resolution and respectful communication with participants, volunteers, co-workers, and community partners.
  • When on-site, ensure the shelter facility is safe and secure by:
  • Implementing emergency procedures
  • Monitoring the facility and grounds regularly
  • Supporting ESS staff when they need to step away from the HUB or answer calls

Facilitate Community and Learning Opportunities

  • Lead or support groups, house meetings, classes, and workshops as appropriate.

Engage in Professional Growth and Team Collaboration

  • Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Speak another language fluently, preferably Spanish
  • Ability to support organization and program-specific mission and goals. ? Minimum of two years of experience in social services, community outreach, advocacy, social support, and assistance. Strong preference for Intake and/or Resource Navigation in Multnomah County
  • Must be able to provide own transportation; mileage is reimbursed ? Upon hire, complete the required 40 hours of Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy Training
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (BA, AA, or some college coursework preferred)
