JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Shift Lead directs and assists in the work activities of production employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee production floor activities to achieve safe, efficient operation of quality product
2. Monitor and maintain production levels
3. Make quality control decisions
4. Safety
o Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed
o Distribute safety on-the-spot award points
o Perform accident investigations
5. Coach and develop employees through on-the-spot feedback, annual performance reviews, and corrective actions
6. Communicate and enforce company rules and policies
7. Approve weekly timecards and requests for time off
8. Conduct employee training of equipment operations and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers
9. Backup plant personnel to operate machines, forklift, crane, etc.
10. Provide efficient changeover to next shift lead
11. Complete production documentation
12. Ensure that maintenance of plant equipment, both troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, is completed through proper communication with maintenance
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality standards
• Knowledge of machines including their limitations
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic
• Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
• Ability to accurately use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
• Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions
• Ability to correctly retrieve and input data in a computer
• Ability to communicate effectively

• Time management skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to routinely climb stairs, ladders, or platforms
• Ability to routinely twist, bend, and squat
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to repetitively reach and grasp
• Ability to frequently lift, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or GED with at least 1 year of Steel Technologies machine operator experience is preferred. Forklift and/or crane certification is required. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a safety sensitive position. This work is performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment processes. The temperature of the facility will vary based on the outside weather conditions. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance and may include overtime as deemed necessary by management.
