Our client is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. Established in 1944, the company employs a highly skilled workforce supported by engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and HR teams.

 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Ship Superintendent or Project Manager with a strong background in USCG dry docking and ship repair. This role is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of complex vessel repair and maintenance projects in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) requirements, including SFLC General Specifications. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience managing dry dock availabilities and is capable of overseeing all phases of ship repair from planning through execution.

 

Job Description

  • Lead and manage USCG dry docking projects, ensuring full compliance with SFLC General Specifications and Coast Guard repair standards
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute ship repair work items, including structural, mechanical, and systems-related scopes
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for USCG representatives, inspectors, and stakeholders
  • Coordinate closely with internal departments (QA, Production, Safety), subcontractors, and OEM technical representatives
  • Review and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and contract requirements specific to USCG vessels
  • Develop and manage project schedules, work sequencing, and resource allocation for dry dock availabilities
  • Support and/or lead cost estimating, budgeting, and change order management
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including shipboard lockout/tagout procedures
  • Monitor project progress to ensure delivery on time, within scope, and within budget

 

Skills Required

  • Equivalent hands-on shipyard or maritime project management experience will be considered
  • Proven experience with USCG dry docking and vessel repair projects (required)
  • Strong knowledge of SFLC General Specifications and USCG regulatory requirements
  • Experience in shipyard operations, repair planning, and project execution
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including government clients
  • Familiarity with federal contracts and compliance requirements
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience in project scheduling and work sequencing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project preferred)
  • PMP certification is a plus

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maritime Studies, or related field preferred

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to security clearance requirements
  • Must be able to obtain TWIC and DBIDS credentials
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in a shipyard environment
  • Open to candidates based in Northern California or with prior experience in that region’s shipyards
