Job Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk coordinates inbound and outbound shipments for the Buffalo facility. This role prepares and verifies shipping documentation, schedules freight, communicates with carriers, and works closely with Production, Sales, Inventory, and plant leadership to ensure materials and finished products move accurately and on time.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and able to communicate effectively with internal teams, drivers, and outside freight providers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule outbound shipments in partnership with Production, Sales, Inventory, and plant leadership.
Arrange common-carrier transportation with outside freight companies.
Determine the appropriate loading sequence and product placement based on delivery requirements, weight limits, and safe loading practices.
Route orders and provide carriers with accurate pickup, delivery, and customer receiving instructions.
Prepare, review, and maintain bills of lading, packing lists, shipping records, and other required documentation.
Verify inbound and outbound shipping documents and investigate discrepancies.
Ensure shipping documentation complies with company procedures and applicable Department of Transportation requirements.
Document shortages, damages, or shipment discrepancies and communicate findings to the appropriate internal teams.
Respond to requests for shipment tracing, order status, and expedited delivery.
Maintain accurate records of incoming materials and outgoing finished products.
Communicate regularly with carriers, drivers, customers, and internal departments regarding shipment status or delivery issues.
Assist with loading and unloading materials from trucks or carts when needed.
Support inventory accuracy and material flow throughout the shipping and receiving areas.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Prepare reports and correspondence as required.
Participate in safety, continuous improvement, and other plant programs and meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of six months of experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, warehouse operations, or a related area.
Manufacturing or industrial warehouse experience preferred.
Working knowledge of shipping documentation, freight coordination, and standard DOT requirements.
Familiarity with safe loading practices, truck capacities, and weight limitations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Experience with ERP, inventory, or transportation-management systems preferred.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
Ability to communicate effectively with carriers, drivers, customers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Ability to complete the company's forklift licensing process.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Compensation & Benefit Information
Hourly pay range: $20.00-$25.00 per hour, dependent on experience. *
Bonus and Incentive Pay
Incentive pay may be available and may include weekly production bonuses, trip rates, employee referral bonuses, or other applicable programs. A discretionary annual bonus based on company and business-unit performance may also be provided.
