Shipping Clerk II - Sterling Heights, Michigan
Day Shift: 6 am to 4:30 pm, Saturdays if required
Contract position
Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour


Description of the Shipping Clerk II:
Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties:
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers
  • Inserts items into containers
  • Nails covers on wooden crates and binds container with metal tape
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments
  • Loads and unloads small skids and crates
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies
  • Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area
  • Performs light maintenance and cleaning of company owned trucks
  • Keeps the Shipping and Receiving area neat and clean at all times
  • Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns
  • Adheres to the Quality System and participates in continuous improvement
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Education and Experience Requirements of the Shipping Clerk II:
  • High School Diploma or GED; or six-months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one-year of Shipping & Receiving experience
  • At least one-year of hi-lo experience
