Shipping Dock Assistant 2nd Shift 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday - Friday Some Saturday overtime required $21 per hour + $2.00 per hour shift differential Job Summary: The Dock Assistant Material Handler shares in the overall responsibilities and mission of the Material Handling Team while, specifically, overseeing the smooth flow of material and vehicles through shipping and receiving docks of the warehouse as well as the shipping yard. Duties and Responsibilities - Monitor and coordinate all dock activities inbound and outbound including:
- Control flow of shipping yard by being aware of how many empty trailers are available at all times
- Respond to unscheduled receiving arrivals
- Move trailers out of and into the dock area to maintain an effective workflow for:
- Sheet loader
- Outbound shipment loader
- Other material handlers
- Ensure dock doors are available
- Check in inbound shipments promptly and accurately by checking PO# and accurately determining whether goods go to production warehouse or pack supply warehouse.
- Receive in LTL shipments and Sheet material shipments.
- Ensure yard is organized and clean, including a scheduled cleaning of dock area monthly.
- Be aware of count of company-leased tractor-trailers on-site.
- Be aware of count of pallets to determine if restock is needed and inform Dispatch if so.
- Maintain manual Dock Log to record driver arrival and departure times.
- Support safe, prompt, and organized dock operations while ensuring all inbound documentation (i.e., Delivery Receipt and Bill of Lading) is received and filed as instructed.
- Escort all non-Skybox employed drivers while inside the building beyond the secured cage area.
- Build deep trust relationship and communicate openly with:
- Dispatch and Truck Drivers
- Distribution Team (Supervisors, Leads, Logistics Manager)
- Plant Leadership (Shift Supervisors, Scheduler, and Production Superintendent)
- Sheet Loader
- Shift Leads
- Other employees of Skybox Packaging as needed
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs / BRC) and other company policies (i.e., Safety, Allergen Control Program, Chemical Control Program, Dust Control).
- Responsible to ensure that all dock and yard operations are conducted in a safe manner.

- 3 to 5 years of experience in shipping, warehousing, and trucking areas preferred.
- This is an onsite job, though occasional after-hours or weekend and off-shift presence.
- Job is M-F with some Saturday work.
- Working knowledge of industrial safety and DOT regulations that relation to Truck Drivers, warehouse, dock operations.
- Adaptable computer skills with a knowledge of computer software including (email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases).
- Packaging industry experience (paperboard and/or corrugated) is a plus
- Operational experience in an environment of skid-level shipping and handling.
- Ability to operate a Tractor Trailer in the yard is required. Training will be provided if needed.
- Be aware of all DOT regulations pertaining to movement of trucks and trailers in the yard and limited use on our street.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Agile, Lean or Six Sigma training is desirable
- Ability to walk the dock area throughout the day and occasionally ride in a truck is required
- Ability to operate and understand the operational limits of fork trucks.
- Knowledge of equipment and methods to conduct day to day inspection and vehicle maintenance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Skilled in time management, multi-tasking, critical thinking, communicating, and listening.
Physical Requirements - Bending, lifting of up to 75 pounds, ability to climb into and out of tractors, ability to walk inside and outside in all weather
This role is a member of the Material handling team and as such should support the mission and occasionally help with the following: Material Handling Team Summary of Responsibilities: The primary mission of the Material Handling Team is to: - Work as a team
- Cross-train into other Material Handler roles
- Pick orders
- Unload/Load trucks promptly and on time, including sheet material, to minimize wait times according to goals and metrics determined by the Distribution Team
- When unloading a truck, check for damages (good looking units when unloaded)
- Keep stock in dock
- Place item(s) on pallet correctly and safely
- Put away raw materials with care
- Scan all movements of materials
- Scan materials into proper locations
- Receiving finished goods
- Keep all paperwork in order and submitted as instructed
- Maintain and store stock in a prompt, safe, and efficient manner
- Organize warehouse stock
- Ensure that forklift trucks and semi-tractors and trailers are properly working; communicate tractor-trailer issues to Transportation Supervisor
- Perform housekeeping on a continuous basis to ensure a clean and safe working environment
- Identify and suggest ways to improve cycle time, reduce errors, or reduce the cost of processing (minimize touches)
- Set up next shift for success by ensuring correct trailers are in the dock area and machines are loaded properly to reduce downtime
- Follow special instructions
