    Job Summary:
    The Shipping & Receiving Associate is responsible for ensuring the accurate receipt, storage, packaging, and shipment of materials, parts, and custom-built industrial machinery. This role plays a critical part in supporting production by maintaining inventory accuracy, preparing machines for safe transportation, and coordinating inbound and outbound shipments. The position requires strong organizational skills, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Machine Packaging & Shipping
    • Plan and prepare custom-built machinery for shipment.
    • Measure machines and determine the safest and most efficient packaging method for each shipment.
    • Build custom skids, crates, blocking, and bracing using hand and power tools.
    • Secure machines and equipment to prevent damage during transportation.
    • Apply protective packaging materials and ensure shipments meet customer and carrier requirements.
    • Coordinate with Production and Supply Chain to verify machines are complete and shipment-ready.
    • Assist with loading machines onto customer and common carrier trucks using forklifts and overhead cranes.
    • Complete shipping documentation and verify shipment accuracy prior to departure.
    Shipping & Receiving Operations
    • Receive incoming materials and inspect shipments for accuracy, quantity, and damage.
    • Unload deliveries and properly stage or store incoming inventory.
    • Pull materials and components for production work orders.
    • Process and ship spare parts using UPS, FedEx, LTL, and other freight carriers.
    • Return unused materials to inventory and maintain inventory accuracy.
    • Assist with cycle counts and inventory organization.
    • Maintain warehouse organization and ensure materials are stored safely and efficiently.
    Material Handling
    • Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
    • Move materials throughout the facility to support production operations.
    • Load and unload trucks while ensuring proper handling procedures are followed.
    • Maintain material flow between receiving, warehouse, production, and shipping areas.
    Quality & Continuous Improvement
    • Verify packaging quality and shipment accuracy before products leave the facility.
    • Identify opportunities to improve packaging methods, warehouse organization, and shipping processes.
    • Maintain a clean, organized work environment utilizing 5S principles.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, safety, and inventory accuracy.
    Safety & Compliance
    • Follow all OSHA regulations and Joseph Machine Company safety policies.
    • Properly utilize forklifts, overhead cranes, and lifting equipment in accordance with company procedures.
    • Inspect material handling equipment prior to use and report maintenance concerns.
    • Maintain a safe work environment by identifying hazards and following proper lifting and material handling practices.
    • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to continuous safety improvement initiatives.
    Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • 2+ years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, or manufacturing experience preferred.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
    • Ability to accurately read tape measures and perform basic measurements.
    • Experience building skids, crates, pallets, or custom packaging preferred.
    • Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes (or ability to become certified).
    • Familiarity with UPS, FedEx, LTL freight, and shipping documentation preferred.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
    • Basic computer skills for shipping software and inventory transactions.
    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in a manufacturing environment throughout the shift.
    • Comfortable working around forklifts, overhead cranes, industrial machinery, and large equipment.
    • Ability to safely load, unload, package, and transport heavy machinery and materials.
