Where you’ll work
Active shipyards operate 24/7. Production areas, including those at Ingalls, can include elevated work, confined spaces, and variable weather. Your shift may be day or night depending on the build schedule and number of ships under construction.
What you’ll tackle
- Fabrication and installation of pipe systems aboard maritime vessels and platforms.
- High-integrity welding on stainless steel and copper-nickel.
- Applying the right process for the joint: GTAW (TIG), SMAW (stick), and FCAW (flux-core).
- Following safety processes that meet—and often exceed—industry norms.
Must-haves
- Minimum 4 years of pipe welding experience.
- Demonstrated experience with GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (stick).
- Ability to pass a military standard X-ray weld test on stainless and copper-nickel in the 6G restricted position.
- Ability to pass military-spec weld assessments in the 2G, 3G, and 4G positions.
Your assessment
- Pipe welding test: 6G restricted on a 5'' Schedule 80 carbon steel pipe.
- Root pass with GTAW (TIG); fill and cap using 11018 electrode.
