SPS New England, Inc., one of the leading heavy highway contractors in New England, is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform duties on Bridge and Highway construction projects.

Since 1984, SPS has been helping to rebuild New England's infrastructure. Wherever you drive throughout Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, there's a good chance you will travel down a road or over a bridge built by SPS New England.

Position Description

Department: Equipment / Maintenance

Reports To: Shop Foreman or Equipment Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time

Job Summary:

The Shop Hand is an entry-level position that supports the daily operations of the equipment shop at a heavy civil construction company. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, eager to learn, and interested in working around heavy equipment, construction machinery, and automotive work. The Shop Hand helps keep the shop and equipment yard organized and will perform general labor tasks to support the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and organize the shop, yard, and work areas
  • Wash, grease, fuel, and help prepare equipment for jobs
  • Move tools, parts, and materials around the shop and yard
  • Perform simple tasks using hand and power tools under supervision
  • Help load and unload equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Follow safety rules and company procedures at all times
  • Perform other general shop and labor duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

    • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
    • Willingness to learn and take direction
    • Interest in mechanical or hands-on work experience
    • Ability to work well with others and contribute to a team
    • Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on your feet for extended periods
    • Comfortable working in a shop and outdoor environment
