Shop Maintenance Technician & Painter (Entry Level) Department: Production/Shop Floor Reports To: Plant Supervisor Job Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt (Hourly) What we expect of our Shop Maintenance Technician & Painter The Shop Maintenance Technician is an entry-level position responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment while assisting with basic facility maintenance and preparing machine components for production. This position supports the production team by performing routine cleaning, painting of machine parts, and general shop and building upkeep duties. What you will do as a Shop Maintenance Technician & Painter - Paint machine parts, frames, and components using company-approved methods and materials.
- Prepare parts for painting by cleaning, sanding, masking, and hanging components as needed.
- Perform basic touch-up painting and maintain a clean paint area.
- Crating and loading machines for shipping
- Sweep, mop, and keep shop floors clean and free of debris.
- Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the facility.
- Clean workstations, assembly areas, and common spaces.
- Assist with organizing inventory, tools, equipment, and storage areas.
- Perform basic building maintenance, including changing light bulbs, replacing air filters, and minor repairs.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials using carts, pallet jacks, or forklifts (after proper training).
- Help maintain outdoor areas, including sidewalks, entrances, landscaping, and snow removal when necessary.
- Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Notify supervisors of equipment issues, maintenance concerns, or unsafe conditions.
- Assist other departments with general labor tasks as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications - High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, maintenance, janitorial, or painting experience is helpful but not required.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Dependable attendance and positive work ethic.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Physical Requirements - Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, varying temperatures, and moving equipment
- Ability to safely operate basic hand tools and shop equipment after training.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Attention to detail, especially when preparing and painting parts.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Good organizational and housekeeping skills.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean workplace.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment is a plus
Work Environment This position works primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. Appropriate safety equipment must be worn at all times, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and any additional PPE required for painting and maintenance tasks.
