Shop Operations & Procurement Coordinator

Design Hire is seeking a Shop Operations & Procurement Coordinator to support construction operations by managing material procurement, inventory control, and shop processes. This role is ideal for someone with MEP or construction experience who enjoys building organized systems, improving workflows, and ensuring materials are available when field teams need them.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate material purchasing, inventory management, and delivery schedules to support active construction projects.
• Track purchase orders, vendor performance, lead times, backorders, and material availability while resolving procurement issues.
• Maintain organized shop inventory and develop efficient stocking, receiving, and material tracking processes.
• Create and maintain Excel-based reports, inventory trackers, and operational documentation to improve visibility and consistency.
• Support project teams by coordinating material needs, vendor communication, and administrative workflows while assisting with continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in procurement, purchasing, inventory control, project coordination, or operations support within construction, MEP, plumbing, HVAC, or a related industry.
• Strong understanding of construction materials, purchasing processes, and vendor coordination.
• Experience working from material lists, takeoffs, bills of material (BOMs), or construction documentation preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to organize data and develop tracking tools.
• Experience creating or improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with vendors, field personnel, and project teams.
• Fire protection industry experience is helpful but not required
