Job Description Summary
The part-time Shuttle Driver is responsible for transporting high school students participating in the TRiO/Upward Bound program during the summer and academic year. The driver must prioritize the safety and well-being of students and staff throughout all transportation duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to interact effectively with high school students, including providing encouragement.
- Familiarity with traffic laws and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions.
- Be punctual and dependable.
- Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends if required
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience transporting passengers, particularly students.
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance
Essential Duties
Essential duties include: but are not limited
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after trips.
- Keep the vehicle clean.
- Report any needed repairs promptly.
- Maintain accurate trip logs.
- Communicate with program staff about transportation matters.
- Provide a positive and safe environment for students.
- Follow all traffic laws and safety rules.
- Perform other assigned duties.

- Ability to Sit for Extended Periods: Comfortably sit for long durations while operating the vehicle and during transportation routes.
- Manual Dexterity: Skillful use of hands and feet for steering, gear shifting, and operating vehicle controls.
- Good Vision: Clear vision to safely navigate roads, read traffic signs, and monitor the surrounding environment.
- Adequate Hearing: Ability to hear sirens, horns, and other auditory cues critical for safe driving.
- Physical Mobility: Ability to get in and out of the vehicle easily, including climbing steps and adjusting seating.
- Strength and Endurance: Sufficient physical strength to handle loading/unloading items if necessary and to remain alert during shifts.
- Visual and Physical Alertness: Maintain focus and alertness to respond promptly to road conditions and passenger needs.
