Description of Work
This position supervises Interpreters of the Deaf, the Foreign Language Specialist as well as the contract interpreting staff. Work involves coordinating interpreter services on and off campus and be responsible for interpreting contract services. Provide direct interpreting services in more difficult situations as needed. Monitor the quality of interpreter services and work with agencies to set up procedures for utilizing interpreters. Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the National Registry For The Interpreters for the Council for the Hearing Impaired. Coordinate and provide sign language training as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an interpreter training program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of professional interpreting experience in a community, business, or government program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification If applicable as defined by GS 90D, meets the requirements for licensure as determined by the North Carolina Interpreter and Transliterator Licensing Board.
