Sign and Post Installer Job Description
Reports To: Manager of Operations Department: Operations Pay Band: 2 - Non-Exempt Effective Date: November 1, 2025
Overall Responsibilities: Responsible for performing all activities related to the removal, repair, and installation of parking signs, posts, and pay-on-foot (POF) equipment. Ensures, all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Remove, repair, and reinstall meter and sign posts • Install and replace posts, signs, and related hardware • Install and remove master meters and meter bases • Perform repairs using appropriate materials, adhesives, and tools • Complete activity and work report accurately and on time • Operate and maintain assigned vehicles; comply with all traffic and parking laws while operating company vehicles • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: • Meter and sign post installation standards, specifications, and procedures • City geography and street layout • Safe use of tools, materials, and equipment required for post and sign work
Ability to: • Use necessary hand and power tools safely and effectively • Operate post-hole digging and related installation equipment • Mix and apply various types of cement and adhesive materials • Communicate effectively via two-way radios and understand city communication codes • Work outdoors under various and sometimes unfavorable weather conditions • Lift and carry materials weighing 50-100 pounds • Complete reports and follow written and verbal instructions accurately
Job Knowledge and Education: Ability to read and follow simple diagrams and instructions
Training: Proficiency in using hand tools and post-hole digging equipment typically acquired after three to four weeks of on-the-job training
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Judgment and Decision-Making: Performs repetitive or routine duties based on clearly defined standard practices. Exercises limited judgment, referring questionable decisions to supervisor.
Responsibility: Responsible for own work; reasonable care required to prevent minor injuries or property damage. Losses involving materials or equipment typically do not exceed $50 per incident. Work is verified and checked by supervision. Occasional contact with the general public and customers.
Manual Skill and Dexterity: Requires moderate manual dexterity and mechanical skills. Work performed to fairly close tolerances; moderate training period required to attain proficiency and knowledge.
Physical Effort: Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, handling, carrying, and bending. Involves crawling, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds safely.
Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors under varying and sometimes unpleasant conditions. Exposure to elements such as noise, dust, dirt, heat, and rain is common.
