Assistant General Manager
Silver Lyan | Riggs Hotel Washington DC
Role Purpose
The Assistant General Manager partners with the General Manager to drive the performance, culture, and guest experience of Silver Lyan. This is a strategic leadership role focused on developing people, strengthening operations, and protecting the standards of the Lyan and Riggs brand.
The AGM owns the measure of success within the team and the operation.
Team Development and Succession
Build and develop a high-performing team through structured training, coaching, and clear, documented performance expectations.
Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports on a defined cycle (quarterly check-ins, formal annual review), with documented development goals carried forward and assessed period to period.
Maintain an active succession map identifying at least one developing successor for each senior floor role.
Deliver or oversee a structured onboarding program for every new hire, with competency sign-off completed within their first 90 days.
Track and improve team retention and internal promotion rate as standing measures of development success.
Operational Leadership
Lead service on the floor 2-4 times per week, setting the standard for execution and guest interaction.
Partner with the GM to maintain and annually review standard operating procedures for service, opening and closing, and consistency across both outlets.
Resolve operational roadblocks proactively, evidenced by reduction in recurring service issues logged period to period.
Practice forward planning and time management that allow the operation to flex with demand, rather than itemizing fixed presence requirements.
Commercial and Operational Performance
Work alongside the GM to maintain the profitability and operational health of the outlet.
Contribute to hitting agreed labor cost and cost-of-goods targets as a percentage of revenue.
Own stock control and ordering accuracy, measured by reduction in waste and variance at inventory.
Maintain the daily administrative rhythm - payroll, scheduling, ordering, correspondence - to deadline, as a core leadership expectation rather than the defining function of the role.
Events and Buyouts
Own the planning and execution of buyouts and private events across Silver Lyan and the Dishonesty Bar.
Represent the venue in BEO meetings and deliver every booked event to specification and on budget.
Achieve a target rate of positive post-event client feedback and repeat-booking conversion.
Coordinate front and back of house so execution is seamless, measured by absence of service failures on event nights.
Brand, Marketing and Guest Experience
Drive a service culture built on warmth, personalization, and consistency.
Help plan and execute marketing and brand-building activity including media visits, Sunday Lyans, and travel takeovers, against an agreed annual calendar.
Monitor guest sentiment scores across review platforms and internal feedback, with a target score and a quarter-on-quarter improvement expectation.
Engage actively with guests on the floor, resolving complaints with urgency and documenting recurring themes for action.
Standards, Compliance and Communication
Champion a culture of hospitality, inclusion, and accountability, acting as a role model in guest interactions and team dynamics.
Communicate with Mr. Lyan and leadership on a regular agreed cadence to ensure operations meet company standards.
Ensure full and current compliance with all health, safety, and licensing requirements, with zero lapses in mandatory certifications or documentation.
Compensation
70,000.00-80,000.00 Annual Salary
