Job Description

The Simulation Education Associate (SEA) is a contingent part-time position supporting the Center for Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation (CIPSI) in advancing healthcare education. This role involves facilitating simulation-based learning experiences, engaging with students and faculty, and promoting the educational impact of the Simulation Center. The SEA contributes to hands-on training by supporting simulation events and representing the lab in various capacities, including guiding tours and participating in outreach efforts. Through its dynamic responsibilities, this position enhances student learning, fosters collaboration, and strengthens the visibility of simulation-based education within the institution and beyond.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setup and facilitation of simulation events.
  • Portray patients in a standardized manner, replicating medical history, symptoms, emotions, and physical findings as scripted.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students based on established evaluation criteria.
  • Participate in training sessions to develop an understanding of patient roles and case scenarios.
  • Allow students to perform non-invasive physical examinations as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding case details and student performance.
  • Assist with inventory management to support laboratory operations.
  • Learn lab operations and technology to effectively communicate its purpose.
  • Lead tours of the Simulation Center, engaging students, faculty, and stakeholders.
  • Represent CIPSI at external events, promoting simulation-based education.
  • Assist with outreach and educational activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance simulation-based learning.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the Simulation Center and the college.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Comfortable with role-playing and maintaining character throughout training sessions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional in all interactions.
  • Ability to follow scripted patient scenarios with consistency.
  • No prior medical knowledge required, but familiarity with healthcare settings is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or lie down for extended periods while portraying a patient.
  • Comfort with being examined in a non-invasive manner by students as part of training scenarios.
  • Ability to portray various physical and emotional conditions as required by case scenarios.

Compensation and Schedule:

  • Hourly rate $20/hour
  • Work hours are variable and depend on simulation schedules.
  • The position is on an as-needed basis with no guarantee of regular hours.
