Job Description:

Independently assures the effective and efficient operation of curricular events utilizing simulated patients including planning, scheduling and execution of the events. Ensures all events have adequate human and physical resources to provide positive learning outcomes for students. Assesses simulated patients' professionalism, knowledge, skills and behaviors using standardized measurement tools. Promote and maintain all departmental duties and responsibilities in accordance with ASPE and SSiH code of ethics and standards of best practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Simulated patient scheduling to ensure coverage, distribution of materials and instructions for all labs, simulated patient events, small groups and simulations
  • Create and distribute schedules for simulated patients and students for all simulated patient encounters
  • Coordinate simulated patient candidate interviews, ensure all new hire documentation is complete, when appropriate, schedule and coordinate new hire orientation
  • Train SPs on cases, interpersonal skills and feedback
  • Train newly hired simulated patients on departmental policies and procedures
  • Serve as primary contact for simulated patients and facilitate communication between simulated patients, department and KCU faculty and staff
  • Communicate with Simulated Patient Manager for SP operational oversight
  • Communicate with other departmental SESs for collaborative training and resource utilization
  • Work with departmental faculty/staff on case and rubric standardization for clinical encounters
  • Maintain Canvas Simulation Patient training course
  • Serve as a liaison to NBOME and provide their feedback to department
  • Participate in continued professional development
  • Assist with daily administrative operation of the center
  • Assist with simulation exercises as needed
  • Participate in community outreach programs
  • Participate on university committees as appointed
  • Participate in university service opportunities
  • Maintain current membership in relevant professional societies
  • Participate in departmental research and publication of results
  • Communicate with students in a straightforward and positive way
  • Be flexible and have the ability to adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and work well with students, staff, and SP colleagues
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the students
  • Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization

Supportive Functions:

  • Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, copying, preparing documentation, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous experience with simulation and simulated patient methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • CHSE certified or eligible to become certified within two years

Highly preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrate advanced computer skills and proficiency. Intermediate Microsoft Suite experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other equipment including items stored at various levels, including overhead
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
  • Be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Be able to sit or stand for up to four consecutive hours without a break
  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
