As a Site Civil Engineer at HDR, you will contribute to the development of civil engineering scope of work and budgets for proposals, serve as the Engineer of Record on non‑complex projects, and coordinate with internal and external resources to complete all due diligence research and documentation. Your role involves design and planning for a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, grading, drainage, paving, and utilities, as well as performing complex assignments that require judgment in engineering techniques. You will also manage a small staff of professionals and technicians, mentor junior staff, and ensure effective communication with managers and team members.ResponsibilitiesDevelop concept site layouts compliant with jurisdictional requirements.Coordinate with jurisdictional authority to determine design and submittal requirements.Attend and contribute to client meetings.Design and plan production for general civil through schematic and construction design processes.Prepare site civil engineering calculations (e.g., stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, hydrology).Prepare specifications and contract documents.Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.Function as a technical specialist or project manager on mid‑size projects as needed.Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as required.Be independent in pursuing information.Manage time and organization of multiple tasks and projects.Communicate effectively with managers and team members.Mentor junior staff and delegate appropriately.Perform other duties as needed.Preferred QualificationsMinimum of 5 years of experience in general civil engineering.Proficiency with CAD civil engineering software such as Autodesk Civil 3D; additional specialty platforms (e.g., OpenFlows) as required.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree.Previous experience in general civil engineering.Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location (e.g., Professional Engineer, PE or P.Eng).Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office.Good verbal and written communication skills.Commitment to being an active participant in our employee‑owned culture.Primary Location: United States—Louisiana—LafayetteOther Locations: United States—Louisiana—Baton Rouge, United States—Louisiana—Metairie, United States—Louisiana—New OrleansIndustry: Building EngineeringSchedule: Full‑timeEmployee Status: RegularBusiness Class: Building Site CivilJob Posting: Jun 22, 2026At HDR, we are committed to the principles of employment equity.
