About the Position
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) is seeking a Mississippi Archaeology Survey (MAS) Site File Coordinator to serve the Historic Preservation Division. Reporting directly to the Chief Archaeologist, this position plays a vital role in supporting the agencys mission to identify, document, protect, and share information about Mississippis archaeological resources. The MAS Site File Coordinator is responsible for assigning archaeological site trinomials, maintaining the Mississippi Archaeology Survey (MAS) site file search room, and managing updates to the Historic Sites Management Tool (HSMT). The position oversees the integrity of the archaeological site file database while ensuring records remain accurate, accessible, and up to date. In addition, the Coordinator may prepare and edit cultural resource survey reports and review Phase I archaeological reports, scopes of work, research designs, and cultural resource assessments to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. The position is also responsible for entering and maintaining data in archaeological report logs and review databases, coordinating with MAS staff on data entry and GIS needs, and providing archaeological survey assistance as needed. This role also supports public outreach by assisting with the planning and implementation of educational programs and special events. As needed, the Coordinator processes archaeological collections by cataloging, cleaning, documenting, and rehousing artifacts in accordance with 36 CFR Part 79. Additional duties may be assigned to support the Archaeology Section and the agency.

Preferred Qualifications
This position typically requires a bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 2-4 years of experience. Hiring agency prefers: A degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates should have completed an archaeological field school and possess at least one year of professional experience conducting North American archaeology.
