Step into a day as our HSE leader

You arrive on the manufacturing floor and check in with your dedicated, non‑desk HSE professional. A quick stand‑up with the Facility Leader sets priorities: a behavior‑based safety walk, follow‑ups from yesterday’s incident review, and alignment on upcoming audits. Mid‑morning, you’re coaching supervisors on Consequence Thinking – Zero & Beyond, then meeting the Quality Manager to sustain ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. After lunch, you finalize an air permit report, brief a cross‑functional Kaizen team on HSE impacts, and close the day by preparing training that turns policy into consistent practice.

Role overview

Reporting to the North America Regional HSE Manager and partnering daily with the Facility Leader, you will own the site’s Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy within a matrixed organization. You’ll collaborate with Corporate QHSE, facility leadership, cross‑functional partners, and external regulatory bodies to reduce risk, strengthen culture, and drive operational excellence.

What you’ll lead and deliver

  • Team leadership: Provide day‑to‑day direction to one full‑time HSE professional (non‑desk). Build accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement at every level.
  • Site HSE strategy: Develop, implement, train, and maintain policies, programs, and procedures aligned with corporate standards and OSHA, EPA, DOT requirements.
  • Environmental compliance: Own permits, reporting, and regulatory interactions end‑to‑end.
  • Injury prevention: Champion behavior‑based safety and team member engagement, including Consequence Thinking – Zero & Beyond.
  • Hands‑on guidance: Support procedure implementation, interpret regulations, and execute corporate mandates on the floor.
  • Incident excellence: Lead reporting and investigations; drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and best‑practice sharing across sites.
  • Assurance activities: Conduct/support internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and operational reviews.
  • Manufacturing partnership: Work with the Quality Manager to maintain ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications. Support Kaizen/Gemba and CI where HSE is critical. Represent the region in cross‑site forums.
  • Enterprise projects: Participate in corporate initiatives and support strategic HSE projects set by the Director of HSE or Facility Leader.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or related field (equivalent HSE experience may substitute for a degree).
  • 3+ years of hands‑on HSE experience, ideally in manufacturing.
  • Proven strength in OSHA compliance, behavior‑based safety, incident management, auditing, and training.
  • Experience with environmental compliance (permits, waste management, reporting).
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 preferred.
  • Familiarity with workers’ compensation programs.
  • Ability to travel periodically for audits, cross‑site initiatives, or training.

Why this role stands out
