Job Description

The Detroit Site Manager ensures optimal performance of the site to achieve customer expectations in a safe and cost-effective manner. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements. Establishes and maintains the local Safety Health Environment and Quality Management systems. Responsible for all safety within the plant with the goal of Zero LTIs. Maintains indirect responsibility for all non-operational areas like Finance, Information Systems, Procurement, Quality Assurance, and Human Resources. Implements the general strategies, policies, and directives of Quaker Houghton. Manager is responsible for personnel management, union and non-union. Maintaining correct personnel organization and manpower requirements. Ensure proper training. Creation of optimal working conditions. Executes order fulfilment processes from receipt of the order through delivery to the customer. Maintains a continuous improvement process on site involving all associates to improve efficiency, quality, or delivery. Ensures compliance with SOX, ISO 9001, and Responsible Care and proper execution of internal and external audits and associated corrective actions. Ensures compliance with operating and capital budgets once approved. Responsible for the maintenance programs of the site, predictive, preventive, and corrective interventions in equipment, installation, utilities, and buildings to guarantee the EHS standards, business continuity, and cost effectiveness are all maintained.

Key Education or Certification Required

  • Bachelors degree in business, chemistry, or engineering or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Must have successful work experience in a manufacturing/supply chain environment, preferably related to manufacturing chemical products or technical knowledge of manufacturing and equipment.
  • Must have experience working in a union environment, dealing with grievances, adhering to the CBA, and negotiating union contracts.

Required Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience

At least 10 years of experience in a management position or multiple roles.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Position holder thinks globally, internationally, and are culturally sensitive.
  • Position holder is fluent in the English language, verbal and writing, and has knowledge of local EHS legislation and regulations.
  • Individual has adequate knowledge of financials and has the following characteristics: leader, analytical, result-oriented, creative, flexible, collaborator, and people manager.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have to stand for extended periods and walk moderate distances daily. Routinely required to reach with hands and arms, may be required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds (25 kilograms).
