Site Operator
Location: Hoot Lake Plant
Position Summary
Otter Tail Power Company is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Site Operator to join our team at Hoot Lake Plant. This position plays a vital role in supporting the reliable operation of hydroelectric generation facilities and the Hoot Lake Plant ash landfill. The successful candidate will perform plant operations, inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and site upkeep while helping ensure safe, compliant, and efficient facility performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of hydro plant sites to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Start, stop, monitor, and operate hydro generation equipment.
- Maintain water levels by adjusting generator and spillway gates.
- Clean trash racks and maintain operational and maintenance logs.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and perform routine repairs on plant equipment and structures.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues and replace parts as needed.
- Lubricate equipment and support the overall reliability of plant assets.
- Perform housekeeping activities, including grounds maintenance, mowing, and snow removal.
- Support the operation and maintenance of the Hoot Lake Plant ash landfill, including daily inspections and site upkeep.
- Transport landfill leachate to designated disposal facilities in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Maintain landfill equipment and structures to ensure safe and compliant operations.
- Respond appropriately to operational contingencies and emergencies while following company procedures and direction from system operations personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support plant and company operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in mechanical, electrical, utility, or industrial operations is preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tank Vehicle (N) Endorsement within a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to become fully qualified to operate hydroelectric generating units.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment, with the ability to identify operational issues and perform repairs safely and efficiently.
- Demonstrated electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Experience operating equipment such as skid-steer loaders, forklifts, or similar light equipment preferred.
- Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow established procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform moderate physical work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

- The expected offer for base compensation for this role is $86,000 - $96,000 annually. The actual compensation within the compensation range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
