Job Description

Martin-Harris Construction is seeking a highly experienced Site Safety and Health Manager to lead safety efforts on one of the most exciting and high-profile projects in the region—the GSR Arena in Reno. This large-scale, complex build offers a rare opportunity to play a defining role in delivering a landmark venue while setting the standard for safety excellence.

This position is ideal for a seasoned safety leader who thrives in high-impact environments, brings deep field credibility, and is passionate about building a proactive, behavior-driven safety culture. You’ll partner closely with project leadership, trade partners, and our Corporate Safety team to ensure safety is not only enforced—but fully embedded into how the job gets done.

Position Summary
The Site Safety and Health Manager will provide support to the Operations department to enforce corporate safety and health policies and procedures. In addition to his/her direct responsibilities, the Site Safety and Health Manager will participate in and complete all tasks designated to them by the Corporate Safety Director.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts onsite safety inspections, safety orientations, and accident investigations
  • Supervises training of employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Verifies compliance with health and safety regulations and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines
  • Manages the participation in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures
  • Acts as advisor to the safety administration team regarding projects, tasks, operation, and accidents
  • Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Attends all initial meetings with the Project Staff and Subcontractor Representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Program
  • Researches new regulations and developments in the field of Health and Safety and recommends changes in the company’s program
  • Controls hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee practices through site visits, safety plans, and education of all supervisory personnel  
  • Performs a variety of tasks

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in general construction with a strong emphasis on construction and/or industrial safety
  • Minimum of 10+ years managing and leading safety professionals and teams on complex construction projects
  • Direct experience supporting projects valued at $400 million or more, with a demonstrated ability to manage safety at scale
  • Arena, stadium, or large public assembly project experience strongly preferred
  • BCSP certification required (CHST, CSP, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of applicable federal, state, local, and company safety regulations
  • Deep familiarity with standard construction safety concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Electrical safety experience preferred
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, project teams, and field personnel
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels of an organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation capabilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), email, and internet-based systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency standards
  • Ability to work onsite in an active construction environment, including job trailer settings and exposure to typical construction site conditions
