Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Site Safety & Health Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity in Appleton, WI. This position will support the site project management team in implementing and maintaining Safety & Health programs for a heavy construction environment.

The Site Safety & Health Specialist will help ensure field operations are performed safely and in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements. This position will work closely with project management, field supervision, employees, and subcontractors to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and maintain an incident-free work environment.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation of site-specific Safety & Health programs, policies, and procedures.

• Conduct employee safety orientations, training, and ongoing safety awareness activities.

• Perform daily site safety walkthroughs and coordinate with field supervision to address identified hazards.

• Assist project teams with Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), pre-task planning, and safety assessments.

• Monitor construction activities and subcontractors for compliance with project safety requirements.

• Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA and other federal, state, and local safety regulations.

• Monitor hot work, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, excavation, and other high-risk activities.

• Assist with required safety permits and verify appropriate safety equipment and controls are in place.

• Investigate incidents, assist with preparation of reports, and support implementation of corrective actions.

• Coordinate pre-job emergency planning with local emergency responders and medical facilities.

• Exercise stop-work authority when conditions present an immediate danger to life or health.

• Identify, document, and resolve site safety concerns in coordination with project management.

• Support field teams with hazard identification and implementation of corrective and preventive measures.

• Distribute safety information, communications, and materials to increase awareness of project safety goals.

• Maintain project Safety & Health documentation and records in an audit-ready condition.

• Assist with required reporting and documentation for corporate and project Safety & Health programs.

• Serve as a safety liaison between project teams, customers, subcontractors, and jobsite contacts.

• Provide feedback regarding safety procedures, implementation challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

Education and experience must meet one of the following:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or

• Associate degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field plus at least 2 years of construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management experience; or

• High school diploma/GED plus at least 4 years of construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management experience.

Additional requirements:

• Working knowledge of OSHA Construction and General Industry regulations.

• Familiarity with ANSI, NIOSH, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers EM 385-1-1, and NEC standards.

• Familiarity with Construction Industry Institute Zero Injury safety principles is preferred.

• OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach training required.

• First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively with project management, field personnel, subcontractors, and customers.

• Must be willing to work varying schedules based on project requirements.

• Valid driver's license required.

• Must be able to meet applicable company vehicle driving requirements.
