Job Title: Site Superintendent - Commercial Construction
Job Description
The Site Superintendent oversees all phases of commercial construction projects from inception through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to a high standard of quality. This role coordinates field operations, supervises production teams, manages subcontractors and vendors, and serves as the primary communication link between the office, design team, and jobsite. The Site Superintendent maintains detailed project schedules and budgets, closely monitors progress, and provides regular updates to leadership while driving efficient, safe, and compliant construction activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of commercial construction projects from start to finish, ensuring quality, safety, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications.
- Oversee day-to-day field operations and serve as the primary on-site leader for all construction activities.
- Coordinate and supervise production teams, ensuring they are fully trained, oriented on project goals, and working efficiently toward milestones.
- Develop, implement, and manage detailed critical path project schedules that align with project timelines and key milestones.
- Track project progress against schedules and budgets, identify potential delays or issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date project schedules and budgets, and provide regular progress reports and updates to the Senior Project Manager.
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, including scheduling, performance oversight, and on-site supervision.
- Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms while maintaining quality and schedule requirements.
- Serve as a central communication hub between the office, design team, and field operations, ensuring timely, clear, and accurate information flow.
- Facilitate coordination with design professionals to resolve field issues, clarify drawings, and implement design changes as needed.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and procedures on site, promoting a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Oversee quality control on all construction activities, ensuring work meets project specifications, industry standards, and client expectations.
- Manage and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, Change Orders, schedules, daily logs, cost controls, scopes, and contracts.
- Monitor and control project costs, track labor and material usage, and support cost control processes.
- Document and report field conditions, progress, and any deviations from plans or specifications.
- Collaborate with project management and design teams to plan upcoming work, sequence tasks, and optimize construction workflows.
- Address and resolve on-site issues promptly to minimize disruptions and maintain project momentum.
- Support the implementation and use of project management software and tools to enhance communication, documentation, and tracking.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in commercial construction, with strong exposure to projects in the Philadelphia metro area (DE, NJ, PA).
- At least 5 years of experience as a superintendent leading commercial construction projects.
- Proven ability to lead and manage commercial construction projects from start to finish, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Hands-on experience in commercial construction environments, including work with general contractors and subcontractors.
- Strong background in managing subcontractors and vendors, including scheduling, coordination, and performance oversight.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, MS Project, and Outlook for scheduling, documentation, and communication.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining and managing detailed project schedules and budgets.
- Proficiency in managing project documentation, including RFIs, Change Orders, schedules, daily logs, cost controls, scopes, and contracts.
- Experience in commercial construction sectors such as medical, multifamily residential, and/or hospitality projects.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate between office staff, design teams, and field personnel.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts and translate them into field execution.
- Proven commitment to enforcing and maintaining safe work practices on construction sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience specifically in the Philadelphia metro area (DE, NJ, PA) commercial construction market.
- Familiarity with Procore construction management software.
- OSHA certification is preferred and demonstrates a strong commitment to jobsite safety.
- Experience working with medical, multifamily residential, and hospitality construction projects, including their unique requirements and standards.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, design professionals, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a dynamic field environment.
- Detail-oriented approach to project documentation, scheduling, and cost tracking.
Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based on active commercial construction sites, overseeing day-to-day operations and coordinating with office and design teams. The Site Superintendent works closely with production crews, subcontractors, and vendors in a fast-paced environment that requires regular monitoring of schedules, budgets, and safety practices. The position relies on daily use of tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, MS Project, Outlook, and potentially Procore for scheduling, documentation, and communication. Work hours align with typical construction schedules and may require flexibility to address project demands, critical milestones, and on-site issues as they arise.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $105.00/hr.
