Position Summary

The award-winning Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for highly motivated, team-oriented and enthusiastic individuals who have a desire to make a difference in Brooklyn Park. A Skating Lesson Aide is responsible to assist with skating lessons with Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department and will work under the general supervision of the Community Activity Center (CAC) Facility Coordinator.

A Skating Lesson Aide is a member of the Recreation and Parks staff team that works together to develop innovative service delivery methods and programs focused on quality partnerships, service to our community and achieving successful results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the CAC Facility Coordinator to run an effective and efficient program
  • Start work session on time
  • Interpret and apply skating rules and principles
  • Maintain order and assure participants are following program plan
  • Report any incidents and assist with completing required reports
Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • 14 years of age or older
  • Previous skating experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and a thorough understanding of skating principles
  • Ability to interact with participants in a responsible and professional manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond with tact and courtesy
  • Ability to maintain order and security
  • Ability to effectively work with youth
  • Ability to make rational and appropriate decisions based on established policy and procedure
  • Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction
  • Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous successful experience working with the public and providing customer service
  • Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
  • Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese language(s)

  • This is a seasonal position that will work less than 20 hours per week; work shifts will primarily be evening and may include some weekend hours.

  • Ability to work in 32-50 degree temperature for multiple hours.

Regular, full-time City of Brooklyn Park employees (40 or more hours per week) are eligible for a benefits package including:
