The Position
Under general supervision a Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water, performs both skilled and general duties involved in the maintenance, repair and construction of City water and sewer system components including water pumps, changing large meters, wells, motors, disinfecting/chlorinating facilities, reservoirs and tanks and performs related work as required.

Special Requirements for Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water I Include:
Valid Class A California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this series. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.
Must have a Tankers Endorsement for Vactor Trucks.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs to include shift work, overtime and emergency callback.
Possession of a D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate prior to completion of probation. Incumbent must maintain, at a minimum, the D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate throughout employment as a Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water I.
Possession of a D2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate desired.
Per California Government Code §3100 - 3109, all public employees are declared to be disaster service workers and must take and subscribe to the oath or affirmation as required.
Special Requirements for Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water II Include:
All special requirements listed for Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water I, plus possession of or obtain a valid D3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate prior to completion of probation. Incumbent must maintain a D3 throughout employment as a Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water II.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position.
BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, Applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.
NOTE:
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Skilled Maintenance Worker - Water I/II will be placed on an eligible list for the respective classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the Citys designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individuals ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.
