Skilled Manual Mill Operator

Join our team at a local steel mill in Youngstown, Ohio, as a Skilled Manual Mill Operator. We are looking for dedicated candidates with experience in milling who are eager to contribute to quality work in a fast-paced environment.

This role involves observing milling and plaining machine operations, making adjustments to ensure products meet strict specifications. You will work on-site, supporting the manufacturing process and ensuring machinery functions properly. Hours:
3rd Shift, 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Pay:
$17.00 – $21.00/hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Position and secure workpieces on machines, using holding devices, measuring instruments, hand tools, and hoists
  • Remove workpieces from machines and check conformity to specifications using microscopes, gauges, calipers, and micrometers
  • Verify alignment of workpieces with rules, gauges, or calipers
  • Move cutters or materials manually or via automatic feeding mechanisms to mill workpieces to specifications
  • Monitor gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure machines operate correctly
  • Study machining instructions, job orders, or blueprints for specifications and tooling requirements
  • Change worn cutting tools using wrenches
  • Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and tools per instructions or metal properties
  • Install tools in spindles
  • Observe equipment operation to prevent flaws and ensure quality

Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of Manual Mill experience
  • Experience in using hand tools
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Attention to detail
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Basic organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with measuring instruments such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, telescoping gauges
  • Knowledge of machine setup and operation

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in manufacturing or machining

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds and dangerous situations
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
  • On-site work location only
