Position purpose  

This is a grant-funded position. An experienced Skills Improvement Specialist (Preceptor) is necessary to help curriculum (General, Airframe, and Powerplant) certificate of completion students' opportunities to refresh and practice skills delivered through the airman certification standards (ACS) curriculum.  

  Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks  

  • Perform, convey, and assist students to further develop skills required to assure as outlined in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airman Certification Standards (ACS) 
  • Follow or create lesson plans for each ACS objective to meet knowledge, risk management, and skills requirements 
  • Work with ATI administration to secure equipment for projects 
  • Work with project director and ATI administration to evaluate student success rates. 
  • Build a scheduling system where students can easily seek assistance 
  • Be able to travel and attend train the trainer NC3 instructor certification training classes
  • Deliver and certify Snap-On NC3 training to students at Vaughn College

Maintain records of trained students both on NC3 and post course skills improvement training

A. Education and/or Experience Requirements  

A Federal Aviation Administration mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings is required for this position. 1 year of teaching and curriculum development experience is necessary for this position.  

 
Professional Skills 

Ability to use aircraft service manuals, web-based aviation maintenance databases. 

B. Reasoning Ability  

Ability to work with students, staff, faculty, and project director 

 

C. Work environment and physical functions 

This position is located in an aircraft hangar environment or in aviation maintenance laboratories. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within these areas. Tasks may include light aircraft work such as moving, minor disassembly and repair. Staring engines and troubleshooting systems safely are also included in the tasks of this position.  Work may be performed outdoors in varying conditions.   

Salary: $55,000 per year
