Become a part of our mission to empower individuals with the essential tools for success in our Personal Care Management program! We are seeking a dedicated Skills Trainer to join our team full-time in Boston.

The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) Program is a MassHealth program that allows people with long-term disabilities to live at home independently. The Northeast Arc Personal Care Management (PCM) program serves about 5,000 individuals living in communities throughout northeastern Massachusetts, Greater Boston, and the Metro West area.

Our Skills Trainers, with the help of a nurse and occupational therapist, assess the personal care needs of the individual and prepare a PCA application to submit to the consumer’s insurer. The consumer’s insurance (MassHealth/Medicaid, SCO or One Care Program) grants final approval of the recommended Care Plan. Once approval is received, the Skills Trainer teaches the individual how to successfully hire, train, supervise, and pay his or her own Personal Care Attendants.

Job Summary: The Skills Trainer assists service recipients in application for and management of Personal Care Attendant (PCA) program/services. This position will assist recipients in the following towns and cities: Boston, Mattapan, and Roxbury.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintains average caseload of 200 PCA program recipients and renders skills training as needed to support appropriate program utilization by consumer and PCAs.
  • Completes home visits to render quarterly, annual or issue-focused skills training in alignment with regulations.
  • Maintains clear and timely documentation of all productivity including contacts by telephone, home visits or written correspondence and confidential activities. Ensures consumer case files meet quality assurance and regulatory standards.
  • Assists service recipients in obtaining prior and continued approval by providing necessary information to Mass Health in a clear, thorough and timely manner.
  • Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of service recipient’s eligibility for PCA services. Assesses service recipient’s aptitude for managing his/her own services. Assists in locating a surrogate as necessary. Monitors services provided by the surrogate and ensure that the service recipient’s participation in their personal care plan is maximized and protected.
  • Maintains working relationship between the Personal Care Management (PCM) Program and Fiscal Intermediary Program (FI) including, but not limited to, resolving service recipient complaints and sharing information with FI as needed.
  • Works with local agencies, DDS staff and community resources to help service recipients access the most appropriate resources in addition to or in lieu of PCA services.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • BA/BS in Human Service Field preferred
  • Bilingual a plus
