Job Purpose/Description

  • To provide academic help and support on resources, skills, and strategies (including but not limited to time management, active studying, academic tech management, resource usage, and test-taking) for all students through multiple modalities.

Job Duties

  • Assist students of all academic abilities with various academic concerns, learning skills and strategy improvement, time management, academic technology, and resource usage.

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive academic environment for students in Tower 2129 - Saints Learning Commons.

  • Provide direct assistance in the use of learning software, such as Google Workspace Suite, Brightspace/My.CSS, Grammarly, Read/Write, Tutor.com, etc.

  • Provide drop-in tutoring and answer subject-specific quick questions as able.

  • Support students through academic success sessions and skill-building in drop-in and appointments.

  • Provide synchronous and asynchronous academic skill programming for all students, including leading workshops.

  • Establish personal contact and rapport with students while being identified as an academic resource and role model for all students.

  • Understand and abide by College and program policies and procedures as a role model.

  • Assess and solve problems with little prep time.

  • Monitor and respond to the email and chat during scheduled hours and respond to communications as needed.

  • Conduct "class visits" and assist with publicizing services.

  • Implement a student needs inquiry and follow up on the results as needed.

  • Refer students to relevant, specific campus resources.

  • Keep regular and accurate records of student contacts.

  • Follow detailed procedures and requirements as assigned by your supervisor.

  • Bring students of concern to your supervisor's attention and, when appropriate, work with the staff to resolve concerns.

  • Attend all shifts, training sessions, team meetings, meetings with staff, programming events, mandatory in-services, and any specific retreats or events as requested by your supervisor. These take priority over all other non-academic commitments.

  • Maintain regular communication with your supervisor.

  • During paid hours, students will work on projects as assigned by their supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current CSS student
  • Minimum: Sophomore status by Fall 2026
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
  • Ability to abide by the Student Code of Conduct
  • Proven record of responsible decisions, punctuality, self-motivation, and organizational skills
  • Interest in building public speaking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with diverse groups of students.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Competence in working with Google Docs, Gmail, Excel, Microsoft Word, and other software applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to work a flexible schedule
