Salary Range

$61,500.00 - $91,875.00

We are seeking motivated and experienced Per Diem Sleep Technicians certified in polysomnography to support overnight sleep testing and data acquisition for research studies conducted in our state-of-the-art sleep lab at the Yale School of Nursing’s Biobehavioral and Translational Research Laboratory (BBL) on West Campus.

Technicians will perform comprehensive PSG set-ups, monitoring, and data collection during overnight studies, following established protocols and ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for participants. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full polysomnographic set-up including EEG, ECG, respiratory sensors, oximetry, and video monitoring.
  • Conduct overnight sleep studies from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM in accordance with AASM standards.
  • Observe, document, and respond to patient needs, equipment issues, and safety concerns during testing.
  • Ensure proper calibration and troubleshooting of PSG equipment and sensors.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation including technologist notes, event logs, and equipment records.
  • Ensure participant safety, comfort, and privacy throughout the study.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical/research staff regarding testing outcomes and technical issues.
  • Follow all institutional protocols, safety standards, HIPAA requirements, and AASM guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current certification in PSG technology (e.g., RPSGT, CPSGT, or equivalent credential).
  • Citi training is preferred; training will be provided for candidates who have not yet completed it
  • Demonstrated competency in set-up, monitoring, and basic scoring of PSG studies.
  • Experience using standard sleep system equipment and software.
  • Excellent technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in an overnight environment.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and participant-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a sleep laboratory, clinical sleep center, or research environment.
  • Familiarity with AASM scoring rules and best practices.
  • CPR or BLS certification

Work Environment

This role involves direct interaction with participants undergoing sleep testing in a lab/clinic setting. Technicians must remain alert and on site for the full duration of overnight shifts. 

Principal Responsibilities

1. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
