The ina Stewardship Assistant supports environmental care and restoration efforts along Plolo Stream. This role focuses on maintaining the stream corridor, documenting field data, and participating in culturally informed stewardship practices. Plolo Stream, formed by the confluence of Waiomao and Pkele Streams, is a culturally significant landscape featuring a natural streambed, phaku, and native species such as Oopu (Hawaiian goby). Proper maintenance of this area is essential to protecting its ecological health and cultural importance.
Description: Saint Louis School is a private Catholic school for young men in Honolulu, Hawaii, serving students from kindergarten through grade 12. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Remove pala from designated areas along Plolo Stream and transport all waste to appropriate disposal sites.
Document data on the volume of rubbish removed and conduct Oopu counts when assigned.
Cut back haole koa and other overgrown vegetation to maintain safe and accessible pathways.
Relocate green waste and plant material to approved areas along the outer edges of the stream bank.
Support the protection of natural stream features, including phaku and native aquatic species.
Participate in cultural and place-based learning activities related to Plolo Stream and its moolelo.
Assist with coordinated workdays involving community organizations such as N Wai Ekolu and Sustainable Coastlines.
Adhere to established environmental and cultural stewardship practices to ensure responsible care of the ina.

Physical Requirements
This position may involve light physical activity in both indoor and outdoor settings. Successful candidates should be comfortable alternating between standing and sitting, as well as navigating stairs and sloped walkways. They should also be comfortable lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds. Strong motor skills and clear, effective communication are essential.
