\nJob Summary
\nThe Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of company equipment, including landscape, utility, and construction support equipment, to keep operations running efficiently and safely.
\nThe primary focus of this role is ensuring all crews have safe, reliable, and efficient equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing 2- and 4-cycle engines, managing shop inventory, and performing preventive maintenance on machinery ranging from handheld trimmers to skid steers.
\nCore Responsibilities
\n- Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines on commercial mowers, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, and hedge trimmers.
\n- Preventative Maintenance (PM): Perform routine oil changes, filter replacements, spark plug changes, and belt replacements. Sharpen blades and inspect safety guards to ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
\n- Shop Management & Inventory: Monitor parts levels, organize inventory, and track parts through the company’s system. Coordinate with vendors for parts procurement, maintain accurate service records, and ensure a clean, safe shop environment.
\nQualifications & Requirements
\n- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience repairing small engines and outdoor power equipment.
\n- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engine diagnostics; familiarity with hydraulic systems and diesel engines is preferred.
\n- Licensing: Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
\nPhysical Demands & Working Conditions
\n- Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs routinely.
\n- Mobility: Ability to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
\n- Environment: Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled shop and outdoors in all weather conditions.
