Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse Practitioner (NP)

Assignment Highlights

  • Location: New York
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 39 hours per week
  • Shift Options:
    • 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM (13-hour Day Shift)
    • 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM (13-hour Night Shift)
  • Rotating day/night schedule (typically 50% days and 50% nights; days and nights are generally not scheduled within the same week)
  • On-call, callback, weekends, and holidays as required by unit needs

About the Unit

  • 16-bed, acuity-adaptable Pediatric Cardiac Care Center
  • Provides specialized care for critically ill pediatric patients with congenital heart disease
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary team including physicians, APPs, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other clinical specialists

Patient Population & Clinical Experience

  • Pre-operative and post-operative pediatric cardiac surgery patients
  • Complex congenital heart disease and single ventricle physiology
  • Open chest management
  • Arrhythmia management
  • Vasopressor and inotropic support
  • External and internal pacemaker management
  • VA/VV ECMO
  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Occasional care of adult congenital heart disease patients and PICU overflow patients

Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience as a Nurse Practitioner (APP)
  • Strong knowledge of complex congenital cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Comfortable managing critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in a fast-paced critical care environment
  • Excellent collaboration and critical thinking skills

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner License
  • Current National Nurse Practitioner Certification
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU APP experience
