Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled SMT Operator to join our manufacturing team. The SMT Operator will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of surface mount technology (SMT) equipment used in the assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role is vital in ensuring the production of high-quality electronic assemblies by adhering to precise manufacturing standards and technical specifications. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, along with experience in soldering, schematics interpretation, and electrical wiring, to support efficient and accurate assembly processes.

SMT Operator:

  • Operate and monitor SMT equipment and machinery
  • Load components and ensure proper machine setup
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and quality checks

Responsibilities

  • Set up and calibrate SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, to ensure accurate placement of components on PCBs.
  • Operate surface mount technology machinery efficiently, monitoring production runs for quality and consistency.
  • Inspect assembled PCBs for defects using IPC 610 standards and perform rework as necessary.
  • Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and assembly instructions to ensure proper component placement.
  • Maintain detailed records of production activities, machine settings, and quality checks.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on SMT equipment and troubleshoot issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, calipers, and ohmmeters for assembly verification and mechanical adjustments.
  • Ensure electrical wiring complies with safety standards and schematic diagrams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements for efficiency and quality.

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating surface mount technology (SMT) machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of PCB assembly processes, including soldering techniques aligned with IPC 610 standards.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), schematics, electrical wiring, and mechanical assembly.
  • Familiarity with mechanical tools such as calipers, power tools, and hand tools used in electronics manufacturing.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions accurately.
  • Electrical experience with troubleshooting circuits using ohmmeters and other diagnostic tools.
  • Basic machining skills are a plus for component handling or fixture adjustments.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality assurance in electronic assemblies.

  • Operate taping equipment to apply protective tape to the front of the lenses
  • Determine work to be done for the treatment of production parts
  • Provide support for the implementation of process changes
  • Stocked in sufficient quantity to ensure the on-going needs of the production
  • Provide training to coworkers as needed to build flexibility of the Production team/li
  • Look for ways to improve and promote quality
  • Support the development andexecution of processes thatsupport the entire surfacemount operation
  • Operate the coating machine to apply spin coat and perform a cosmetic inspection of the lenses
  • Utilize the blocking machine to accurately secure a block to all lenses going through the surfacing department
  • Report directly to the Production Manager
  • Provide strong leadership to the work-cell in activities relating to product quality
  • Managing all internal aspects of the product line from cradle to grave
  • Make adjustments to the machine to control speed, material feed and path of the cut, as well as make sure the machines are set
  • Perform necessary duties for automated manufacturing of products
  • Provide support to the programming of automated optical inspection equipment and other SMT equipment programming needs for the both the production and pilot lines
  • Provide support to the programming of a new surface mount technology line for the New Product Introduction Area
  • Provide support to the operation of a new surface mount technology line for the New Product Introduction Area
  • Monitor the output of machines to ensure quality, and maintenance and calibration
  • Provide accurate, timely feedback of production issues to the work cell teams
  • Maintain equipment and to ensure efficient operation of work centers to meet production schedules
