Position Summary

PICA Product Development is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented SMT Setup Technician to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and preparing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production lines to ensure efficient, high-quality manufacturing. The ideal candidate has experience in electronics manufacturing, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in producing quality work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up SMT production lines, including feeders, reels, stencils, tooling, and machine programs.
  • Perform production line changeovers to meet manufacturing schedules.
  • Verify component part numbers, feeder locations, and setup accuracy prior to production.
  • Load and replenish components while maintaining material traceability.
  • Conduct first-piece setup verification and support production startups.
  • Troubleshoot setup and feeder issues to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, work instructions, and setup documentation.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and material control teams to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Maintain accurate production and setup documentation.
  • Follow all ESD, quality, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of SMT equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area using 5S principles.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of SMT setup experience in an electronics manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with SMT placement equipment, feeders, and production changeovers.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
