Description

The City of Richmond Department of Social Services Division of Economic Support Independence is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Social Casework Coordinator to work in the Child Care Program Unit. The incumbent is responsible for providing supportive services to families through government assistance programs.

The anticipated hiring range is $54,808-$70,000.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Processing childcare applications;
  • Providing caseload management to include monitoring contracts for customers assigned to the Employment Services Program;
  • Completing reports for childcare cases;
  • Processing requests for emergency services (delinquent utility bills, housing needs, etc.);
  • Utilizing automated computer system to enter purchase order/invoices;
  • Working to assist customers to gain self-sufficiency while maintaining compliance and confidentiality.
  • Participates in Mass Care Center operations during incidents or declared emergencies as needed for the duration oft he event.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

City of Richmond Department of Social Services employees are considered essential personnel may be required to work during inclement weather and times of declared emergencies.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge in principles, practices, and techniques of case management; laws, regulations, and rules governing the provision of social services to children and youth, adults, seniors, etc.; current social, economic, and health programs appropriate for the population served; and available community resources.

Demonstrated skills in sound judgment and reasoning; excellent interpersonal communication; interviewing; and technological proficiency (e.g. computers/software programs).

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; problem-solve; evaluate data; understand and interpret regulations and laws; work with diverse populations, including hard-to-serve and low income; manage confidential/sensitive data with a high degree of confidentiality; and coordinate and facilitate programs.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree in human services, social services, or related field;
  • Bachelors degree in human services or social services preferred;
  • Three years of human services or social casework paraprofessional experience;
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some assignments may require a valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record or a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Considerable knowledge of the following: Child Care Service delivery systems, Current social services issues and trends, economic and work/family concerns, social services casework philosophy, methods, and practices;
  • Ability to process high volume caseload;
  • Ability to work with diverse, socially and economically challenged population;
  • Strong personal computer, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
