Position Overview

The Special Education Paraeducator will work collaboratively with certified special education teachers to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades 6 - 12. The individual may provide support with one-on-one and small group instruction, implement individualized behavior plans, and assist in the supervision and guidance of students throughout the school day.

Major Responsibilities & Requirements

Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers and BCBA.

Support students in developing independent learning skills and self-management strategies.

Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.

Monitor student behavior and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress and needs.

Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support the overall development and progress of students.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements

Must have taken and passed the ParaPro test or have 2 years full time post-secondary education (minimum 60 credits) or Associates Degree or higher

Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or interested in becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) but all individuals passionate about working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges are encouraged to apply.

Consistent attendance is an essential function of this position

Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.

Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and emergency physical management as required.
