Social Media and Digital Content Manager (Temporary)Job Title: Social Media & Digital Communications Manager - Temporary | Part‑time (~20 hours/week for 12 weeks; August 11 – November 5)Reports To: Communications Senior DirectorTeam: CommunicationsLocation: Chicago, IL or United States (Remote)Salary Range: Hourly equivalent range: approximately $42 – $50/hour depending on experienceJob Summary: The Social Media & Digital Communications Manager is a temporary, part‑time role supporting The Global FoodBanking Network's digital communications during a team member's parental leave. The position ensures a consistent, engaging, and on‑brand digital presence across social media platforms, delivering timely content that strengthens audience engagement and organizational storytelling. It supports the execution of key initiatives, including the Food For Change campaign and the Global Summit, through coordinated, cross‑channel communications that increase awareness, participation, and stakeholder alignment, while also maintaining basic website updates and day‑to‑day digital continuity.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSocial Media Content Creation and ManagementManage GFN's organic social media content calendar, creating and aligning content with organizational priorities, campaigns, events, fundraising initiatives, and evergreen storytelling.Oversee the scheduling, review, approval, and publication of social media content across GFN channels.Monitor all social channels daily for engagement opportunities, including comment moderation and responding to direct messages.Food For Change Campaign SupportCoordinate digital communications activities for GFN's annual Food For Change campaign in partnership with internal stakeholders and external agency partners.Manage campaign‑related social media content, email communications, stakeholder resources, and web updates.Support campaign planning, implementation, and progress tracking to ensure timely delivery of campaign activities.Global Summit CommunicationsLead social media promotion for the GFN Global Summit, including sponsor recognition, speaker and session promotion, and attendee engagement.Collaborate with internal teams to develop event‑related digital assets and communications.Support post‑event social media communications and assist with video production for wrap‑up materials.Website and Digital Communications SupportProvide light website content management and updates through WordPress as needed.Support broader digital communications initiatives to ensure consistency across channels and platforms.Position RequirementsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree required.3–6 years of experience in social media management, digital communications, or content marketing (nonprofit experience strongly preferred).Demonstrated experience managing multi‑channel social media accounts (e.g., LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).Experience developing and executing content calendars and coordinating cross‑channel campaigns.Experience creating digital content, including copywriting, basic graphic design, and short‑form video editing (e.g., Canva or similar tools).Experience supporting campaign or event communications (advocacy, fundraising, or awareness campaigns preferred).Experience working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners/agencies.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong social media writing and storytelling skills across platforms.Proficiency with content creation tools (e.g., Canva) and social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social or similar).Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and content streams.Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners, including managing review and approval workflows.Understanding of social media best practices and basic performance metrics.Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.Interest in or familiarity with global nonprofit or humanitarian issues preferred.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).Physical Requirements100% remote position requiring the ability to work effectively from a home office environment, including reliable internet access and a suitable workspace.Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, including typing, video conferencing, and screen time.Must be able to work across time zones as needed, sometimes outside standard business hours.Connection to GFN ValuesLead with InspirationChampion Community‑Led SolutionsCreate Sustainable ImpactHonor Our CommitmentsCenter Diversity, Equity, and InclusionLearn and InnovateEOE Statement: We are an equal employment opportunity employer.
