The Job
The Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian is recruiting for Social Service Practitioners (SSPs) who provide professional social work services including diagnosis, assessment, intervention and case management support to aging and adult individuals with complex health, psychological or economic problems. Work requires investigating and/or supporting cases involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities or other health conditions. Travel and field work, including home visits, are a routine part of these assignments.

INITIAL APPOINTMENT/ADVANCEMENT
Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian offers a competitive salary and benefits package and rewards dedicated employees with long-term service commitment to the County. Social Service Practitioners are hired at the following levels and advance within the series based on experience as a Social Service Practitioner (or equivalent) and in accordance with criteria established in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Completed service hours at the SSP I (Trainee) level do not count toward the service hour requirement to advance from the SSP II level to the SSP III level
Social Service Practitioner II
0 years of County service as a SSP II, but less than 3 full years of completed County service (i.e., less than 6,240 service hours) as a SSP II
S2: $69,742- $98,259 annually
Social Service Practitioner III
At least three (3) full years of completed County service (i.e., completion of at least 6,240 service hours) as a SSP II
S4: $75,088- $106,100 annually

SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS/FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
Candidates available for the following assignments are encouraged to apply and may receive additional compensation as specified in the MOU.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Shift: Work schedule may require availability for after-hours referrals, night duty, and weekend shifts.
Travel: Incumbents travel throughout the County, and must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license, a clean driving record, and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. Employees may be required to make provisions for transportation (mileage reimbursement is available).
Physical: Employees visit clients in their homes and other settings to complete risk and safety assessments. Incumbents must be able to visually assess allegations of abuse and the clients environment as mandated by the State of California.
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants selected for these positions must successfully pass a background check which includes fingerprinting and a verification of employment history and education.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option A: A Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Option B: A Masters degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling with an emphasis in gerontology, marriage, family, or child counseling, or a closely related field AND either 500 hours of supervised clinical internship OR one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on application or resume.)
Option C: A Bachelors degree in Social Work (BSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on application or resume.)
Option D: Bachelors degree in gerontology, behavioral science, psychology, sociology, social/human services, anthropology, cultural and gender studies, or human development AND two (2) years of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on application or resume.)
Candidates in Final Year of Masters Program: Applications will be accepted from candidates who are within 120 days of completing a qualifying Masters degree provided they meet the minimum requirements for experience at time of application. Job offers may be made contingent upon degree completion; verification of qualifications will be required prior to hire.
Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Proof of the required completed coursework and/or degree(s) will be required at the time of the interview.
Desired Qualifications
Social work experience related to the services provided within the Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian is highly desirable.

SSP Level - Initial Placement. Candidates may be placed at the SSP II or III Level depending on qualifications, including prior experience approved equivalent to a Social Service Practitioner in a government social work agency. Candidates initial placement and advancement to the II or III Levels will be determined according to the criteria outlined in the Professional MOU. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide a complete work history and include all relevant social work experience to be considered for placement/advancement on their application.

Social Service Practitioner Experience: Indicate how much experience you have equivalent to a Social Service Practitioner in San Bernardino County. Equivalent experience will include professional/advanced level social work handling the most difficult/complex cases in a government social work agency.
