First 5 Riverside County Children & Families Commission is recruiting for a Social Services Practitioner III for Desert Hot Springs, CA.

This is a fast-paced environment that requires excellent ability to obtain information from individuals in crisis and excellent critical thinking skills for the ability to analyze information provided, identify additional information needed and determine appropriate response times for assistance to clients.
The Social Services Practitioner III is the highest classification of the professionally trained social caseworker in the Social Services Practitioner series Incumbents are characterized by the responsibility for performing full scope social service casework often requiring difficult diagnosis and intensive treatment services. The Social Services Practitioner Ill is distinguished from the Social Services Supervisor series by the latters responsibility to provide full time supervision of staff performing casework.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree, preferably with a major in social welfare, social or behavioral sciences, social/human services, counseling, or a closely related field to the assignment.
Experience: One year equivalent to a County of Riverside Social Services Practitioner II.
OPTION II
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree, preferably with a major in social welfare, social or behavioral sciences, social/human services, counseling, or a closely related field to the assignment.
Experience: Two years of performing casework duties in a public or private human services agency. Experience must include assessing or determining client needs, formulating case plans or executing case plans to support and meet client needs.
OPTION III
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a masters degree, preferably with a major in social or behavioral sciences, social/human services, counseling, or a closely related field to the assignment.
OPTION IV
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in Social Work.
Experience: Completed internship experience in a public or private welfare agency as part of an accredited Bachelor of Social Work degree program.
POSITIONS ASSIGNED TO A HEALTHCARE FACILITY
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a masters degree in social or behavioral sciences, social/human services, or a closely related field to the assignment.
Experience: Two years as a County of Riverside Social Services Practitioner II , or one year of performing social casework duties in a hospital or healthcare facility equivalent to a County of Riverside Social Services Practitioner II or ten years of Hospital Social Worker experience in a hospital or healthcare facility.
POSITIONS ASSIGNED TO THE CHILD LIFE PROGRAM
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a masters degree in social or behavioral sciences, social/human services, child life, child development, or a closely related field to the assignment.
Experience: Two years of Child Life Specialist experience in a hospital or healthcare facility.
ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of: Principles and techniques of social casework and of the function of public social service agencies; individual and group behavior with emphasis on normal growth, development, and family relationships; social casework objectives, principles, and methods; socioeconomic and cultural factors which promote stable family life, and an understanding of the factors that affect family security; physical and mental illnesses and their impact on personality; community organizations and the services they provide; laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of public social services agencies; basic computer skills.
Ability to: Establish rapport with clients and their families; effectively apply casework knowledge and skills; apply the principles of general and/or child psychology and family relationships; evaluate personal and psychological factors in the client and/or familys situation; work constructively within an agency and community setting; effectively utilize appropriate resources and services; provide consultation to others; demonstrate skill in planning and analysis; control personal bias and apply social work ethics; maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; provide consultation to and assist in the professional development of less experienced Social Services Practitioners; input and retrieve data from computerized system.

Pre-Employment

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0 < 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4 < 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY:
Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave Benefits. The wage replacement rate is determined by current law, offering 60-70% of the wages earned during the SDI eligibility period.
Additionally, employees receive employer-paid Long-Term Disability Benefits, which cover 66.67% of pre-disability earnings, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month. There is a 365-day waiting period before these benefits become active. Employees may coordinate these benefits with other available leave balances to receive up to 100% of their regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
