The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). About the Position
This is a time limited position (NS-14). The Social Services Program Team Lead will primarily function as the assistant to the District Manager. In this position, the Social Services Program Team Lead will provide training and oversight for the Social Services Program Coordinators that identifies and coordinates long-term services and supports to assist individuals with the most severe physical disabilities to remain independent in their homes and communities. Employees in this position oversee ongoing community-based services to these individuals and are responsible for the planning and monitoring of accessibility needs and in-home personal care services to ensure the individuals remain as independent as possible in both the home and community-based setting. Services are provided based on need as determined by a functional assessment and are provided through an individualized plan of services and supports. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: • Assists the District Manager in planning, implementing and evaluating the technical and administrative components of the district; • Assists the District Manager in performing administrative tasks for planning and provides training/development to staff members; • Provides technical assistance and guidance to subordinate staff members with their casework; • Advises staff members on matters of policy and administration; • Conducts case reviews; • Reviews the work product of various staff members within the district; • Assists in the coordination of activities in the district; • May act in the place of the District Manager during his/her absence; • Assists District Manager with facilitating district meetings. • Assists with reviewing, analyzing, and following up on data obtained from the Monthly Management Reports. • Assists with vacant caseloads that may require the following: Monitoring all approved services to meet the individual's current needs; Conducts quarterly home visits and conduct monthly telephone contacts with the individuals being served; Ensuring personal care attendants (PCA's) chosen by the individual meet basic competencies, and review and approve their payroll; Must be able to travel within their assigned area.
What youll need to be Successful
Good oral and written communications skills are required to be proficient in this position. Must be able to prioritize, plan and provide timely services to those individuals being served. Looking for individuals who can multi-task, are very detailed oriented and analytical. A thorough knowledge of program policies and procedures are required. Must be able to communicate relevant information on a timely basis with accuracy and completeness. Is a problem solver who works to find solutions to unexpected problems that arise within the resources available.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 4-7 years of experience. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field and 4-7 years of relevant experience.
